Mexico Seleccion Motozintla Washed
About This Coffee

The Region
Located in the southern reaches of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, near the border with Guatemala, Motozintla is one of Mexico’s most dynamic coffee-producing regions. Towering mountains, cloud forests and winding rivers shape a landscape of extraordinary biodiversity, while elevations exceeding 1,500 meters create an ideal environment for specialty coffee cultivation. The region’s rich cultural heritage, influenced by Indigenous communities and generations of coffee-growing families, has fostered a deep appreciation for agriculture and craftsmanship. Today, Motozintla continues to earn recognition as an origin where exceptional natural conditions and the dedication of its producers come together to create coffees with a distinctive sense of place.

The Process
The mountainous terrain and high elevations of Motozintla create ideal conditions for producing specialty coffee. Cool temperatures, abundant rainfall and fertile soils encourage the slow development of Arabica cherries, supporting balanced and expressive cup profiles. During harvest, only ripe cherries are selectively hand-picked before being processed using the washed method. Careful fermentation, washing and sun drying help preserve the coffee’s natural sweetness, clarity and structure, while meticulous preparation ensures each lot is ready to meet the expectations of specialty coffee buyers.
